I own a business and am incorporated. I am considering filing bankruptcy but don’t want to include my personal debts (car payments) because I will pay those without disruption simply by getting a job. I want to find out about my business debts and if I can file bankruptcy on those and not involve my personal finances. I rent an apartment and pay car payments and do not outright own anything.

A friend and I have been kicking around the idea of starting a non-profit 501c organization. Because of student loans and other debt issues, plus a recent tax lien, my credit rating is poor right now. To fund the venture we will be seeking grants mainly, no private loans. Would my personal credit situation be a problem along the way? Thanks for your help.

I’ve been fighting a judgement lost by default as the attorney was in negotiations with me and was going to settle, then he proceeded to court without my knowledge. He sued me personally, but my company whom I am part of is an llc. They are trying to hold be liable for a contract signed with a vendor 6 months before I was on the project. Now they just froze my company funds. Yet they didn’t sue the company and I am not an officer. I am the designer. My husband is CEO and it is just a small operation, with six employees. My children are the other “board members”. I am fighting the original judgement and am trying to get it thrown out because of his business ethics. Right now we can’t operate because all our funds are frozen. His exwife was my client and I think she couldn’t get the money out of the company that did ***** up, and figures she could get it out of me.

I currently have four business accounts (Dell, Staples, Office Depot and Exxon). I would like to get a business line of credit or credit card without a personal guarantee, so I can eventually have a business profile under my company name. All of my credit cards are in good standing. But I don’t want to have my personal debt tied in with the business debt.

I keep getting offers from Advanta but they ask for the Social Security Number for the business owner. Where can I go to get business credit solely based on the company’s Tax ID Number? All of the other credit card accounts were obtained this way.
Do you have any suggestions?
